Report Caster can burst a single report into multiple sections and send each section to a different Web server, e-mail address, printer, or wireless device. Reports are burst based on sort fields – by name, branch office, sales region, department, or management level, for example. With just one pass of the data, you satisfy the needs of many users throughout your organization. The need to run, collate, and mail multiple reports is eliminated. Administrators and clerical staff save hours of work, and valuable processing time is preserved.

ADMINISTRATIVE CONTROL
Through a Web-based console facility that's accessible via any standard browser, administrators can exercise total control over all Report Caster activity. The administrator can specify who is permitted to schedule and run reports and determine exactly what information each user can access.

Administrators and power users can elect to be notified via e-mail every time a job is run, or only when a job has failed to execute properly, when the mail server is unavailable, a bad USERID or password is used, or when an alert condition fails. ALERT REPORTS
Administrators and end users can schedule reports based on conditional requirements, for example, when sales figures fall below a certain amount. The report can be scheduled to run at any interval depending on how volatile the data is and how frequently it needs to be checked. Only when the condition is met is an alert pushed to the user.

FLEXIBILE USER ENVIRONMENT
Report Caster makes it easy to offload scheduling responsibility to end users or designated power users. Once authorized, users may schedule reports through an easy-to-use GUI interface or through HTML pages customized to each user's particular needs. Users can schedule their reports at any interval, select a distribution method, and use public or private mailing lists. Alternately, a subscription reporting application can be implemented, allowing an administrator to retain full control over scheduling times. End users simply add themselves to a report distribution list by supplying their e-mail address.

RULES-BASED GOVERNING
Your governing rules can range from very simple to very complex. For example, if your browser times out in 60 seconds, you can tell WebFOCUS Resource Governor to block all queries that will return in 61 seconds or more. Also, you may want to stop any query that takes more than 30 seconds during peak processing times, unless initiated by a power user. Whatever the rule, WebFOCUS Resource Governor will enforce it.

A Rules Wizard lets you build common governingrules with just a few clicks of the mouse. These rules may include:

1. Preventing runaway queries that use wild-cards like "SELECT" or "PRINT."
2. Limiting the number of joined tables.
3. Requiring filters on indexed columns.
4. Disallowing queries during certain times.
5. Providing a message explaining why the request was canceled.
6. Allowing power users to bypass governing.

CREATE RULES FOR A WIDE RANGE OF USAGE CHARACTERISTICS
Rules based on a wide range of usage characteristics can be implemented immediately upon installation. These usage characteristics include:

• User ID's.
• The number or names of joined tables.
• Columns selected or used in "WHERE" or "IF" clauses.
• The time the request was submitted.
